Keeping Projects Moving: The Value of Our In-House Transport Fleet 17 September 2026

Ivor King Transport Delivers

When you’re delivering specialist piling work at busy construction sites, mobilising the right plant and materials into site at the optimum time is vital to the smooth operation of the job.

For Ivor King, that’s where our in-house transport operation plays a vital role.

Operating from our central hub in Nuneaton, Ivor King Transport gives us greater control over the movement of our plant, piling equipment and materials, helping us provide the flexibility and responsiveness our main contractor clients need.

Keeping control of the logistics

Construction programmes rarely stay completely static.

Site requirements can change, programmes can move, and sometimes equipment or materials are needed sooner (or later) than originally planned. Having our own fleet of specialist trucks and trailers means we can react to those changes quickly.

Rather than being entirely dependent on the availability of external haulage, our transport team can coordinate directly with our operations teams to plan and manage movements between our facilities and sites.

That can mean delivering piling equipment for the start of a project, inter-site moves as programmes change, or arranging additional materials as they’re needed, giving our clients one less thing to worry about.

Transport designed around our piling operations

Our fleet has been developed around the requirements of the work we do.

We’ve invested in heavy haulage trucks and specialist trailers capable of moving the large and bulky equipment used across our piling operations. This is particularly valuable when transporting large items of plant into and out of construction sites, where access can be restricted and space is often limited.

Our fleet includes specialist step-frame and extendable trailers, as well as equipment capable of handling heavy and abnormal loads.

At Ivor King, we have the equipment and expertise within the business to plan movements around the requirements of our projects.

A joined-up approach

One of the biggest benefits of having transport as an in-house part of the business is the communication between our teams.

Our transport department works alongside our project, plant and operations teams, giving us a joined-up approach to logistics.

For a main contractor, that can make a real difference. Piling is often just one part of a much larger construction programme, and delays or changes in one area can have a knock-on effect elsewhere.

Being able to coordinate our own plant and material movements gives us greater flexibility to support the overall programme.

It also means our transport team understands what we’re moving, why it’s needed and the environment it’s going into – because they’re an integral part of the same business.

Investment that benefits our clients

Our investment in transport is part of a wider approach to continually investing in the people, plant and facilities that support our piling operations.

We continue to develop our fleet so that we have the right vehicles and specialist trailers available to support our diverse and growing range of projects.

It’s an investment that benefits our clients too.

From a main contractor’s perspective, having a piling contractor with its own specialist transport capability can provide greater certainty around deliveries, more flexibility when programmes change and a more responsive approach when site requirements evolve.

It’s about having the right resources available, when they’re needed – and having the people and infrastructure in place to make it happen.
