We’re keen to demonstrate why we’re the piling company of choice for so many of the UK’s leading construction and civil engineering companies.
We look forward to being of service.
With more than 40 years of experience providing sheet piling solutions to the construction industry, we’re acknowledged as one of the UK’s leading sheet piling contractors. Such depth of knowledge and expertise enables us to work in a variety of market sectors, across all divisions of commercial, residential and public works.
Our areas of expertise include:
We can offer a choice of installation techniques, specifically selected according to your project’s requirements, coupled with the engineering challenges of the job. They range from conventional driving equipment and telescopic leader rigs to state-of-the-art silent and vibration-free piling Giken technology. Our diverse fleet of specialist plant and equipment enables us to install sheet piles into any ground condition, up to and including hard rock.
We permanently hold more than 3,000 tonnes of new and good quality used sheet piles in stock at our centrally located Headquarters in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. Our close proximity to the heart of the motorway network means we’re ideally placed to handle any project requiring sheet piles anywhere in the UK.
Our sheet piles can be hired and/or bought to meet the specific commercial and environmental needs of your project. What’s more, our wholly owned and operated plant and transport enables us to rapidly mobilise, meaning we can react with speed to any urgent or emergency piling situation. Whatever the scale of your project, large or small – we have the capacity and capability to deliver.
Bored piling is a method of construction which utilises reinforced concrete piles to support high buildings bearing heavy vertical loads. Bored piling can be applied to a wide range of ground conditions and is often used to overcome unstable or difficult soil strata.
In addition to providing foundation piles, retaining walls and earth retention systems can be formed using the bored piling method. Such retaining walls may be either Contiguous or Secant. A contiguous wall is formed by installing closely spaced bored piles, with a small gap between adjacent piles. In contrast, a secant pile wall is formed by installing overlapping bored piles where water tightness is a requirement.
A bored pile is an extension of the displacement piling technique and encompasses Rotary (sometimes called Large Diameter Auger LDA), CFA (Continuous Flight Auger), SFA (Sectional Flight Auger), Mini (Restricted Mini Piling – Micro Piles), DTH – Odex (Down The Hole Hammer) and Grab. Individual techniques have their own specific merits in the environment they’re required to work.
Our bored piling services are operated by an experienced and dedicated team with extensive specialist knowledge of the bored piling industry. We offer the best solution to meet your needs using a large database of site investigations and test pile results. We can assist you through each stage of the project, from initial feasibility and design to final completion.
Driven piling solutions may be used to support buildings, tanks, towers and bridges, and to provide lateral support for earth retention walls. Steel sheet piles and soldier piles are the most common type of driven piles for this application.
Our driven pile solutions are principally Concrete or Steel (Tubular, Sheet Pile and H-Beam) and are all manufactured in accordance with up to date National Standards.
King Post Walls, made up of king posts and infill panels, are often used when hard ground conditions dictate, to offer a cost effective earth retention system, used as either a permanent or temporary solution.
Where sheet piles are unable to penetrate, the ground can be drilled, allowing a post to be installed at pre-determined centres, then horizontally in-filled with a panel lining system using a variety of methods, including;
King Post Walls may be used for many different retention applications and heights in a variety of ground conditions and are ideally suited to hard driving in difficult ground conditions, including rock. Applications can include basements, embankment retention and flood defence walls.
Our powerful double rotary head piling rigs may be used to bore most soil and rock types. They are particularly practical in situations where a wall is to be installed from the lower level, avoiding forming a high level piling mat.
Our King Post Walls are designed to Eurocode Standards.
Combination sheet pile walls are typically formed by joining a pair of sheet pile sections with regularly spaced king pile patterns and are typically used when regular sheet piles are not strong enough to carry the required loads.
The two main components of a combined wall system are the king pile (HZM or tube) together with intermediate sheet piles. The H pile uses standard clutch connections to enable effective transfer of loading from the adjacent sheet piles. The sheet piles are normally shorter than the H piles, varying from 60% to 100% of the length. The H piles are often designed to carry substantial vertical loads in addition to the normal bending loads.
Combination Walls are generally used for large retained heights or where ground conditions are too weak to offer sufficient resistance to the pile loads, requiring long piles to reach more competent soils. In marine applications, it is common for the king piles to be driven to a greater depth so that a bigger axial capacity is obtained.
Ivor King is dedicated to offering the most efficient combination wall system to suit your specific project needs.
For us to provide you with the best engineering solution to meet the needs of your project, there are numerous influences that require consideration when developing our final technical proposal.
It is vitally important to us that you feel confident with our approach, especially in understanding why our experienced design team has developed a particular solution to your brief.
Our experience, technical capability and extensive piling plant holding means we’ll never recommend a retaining wall solution or bearing pile foundation system over any other solution, based upon what we can or cannot install.
Because we own and operate our own plant and fleet, with in-house transport management expertise, plus servicing and vehicle maintenance capabilities, we can ensure our operation works efficiently around the clock. When required, we can quickly mobilise and respond to an enquiry and if urgent, within 24 hours of receiving your call.
Working with industry leading design software, our proposals and estimates will be presented to you accurately in a clear and concise manner, together with relevant technical data and analysis. These include structural load bearing capacities, soil and ground strata analysis and engineering reports, all of which can be supported by graphical and tabular outputs to help aid your understanding of the solution.
Our risk management procedures are applied to all in-house designs for both permanent and temporary works. Our work is accredited to BS EN ISO 9001, 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 standards – evidence of our commitment to quality and service excellence.
These quality procedures identify potential risks for the site installation works in addition to any residual issues which may affect the built structure or its future alteration or demolition.
