making a positive impact
What Social Value means to us
At Ivor King, Social Value means creating positive, lasting impact beyond the physical delivery of our Piling and Civil Engineering works. It is about building strong foundations not only in the ground, but for people, communities, and the future of the industry. Social value is embedded into how we operate, shaping our decisions, behaviours, and long-term commitments.
Our approach is structured through four main pillars – our Social Value Framework, a clear and practical model that ensures Social Value is delivered consistently and meaningfully across all projects. Each pillar represents a key area where our activities create tangible economic, social, and environmental benefits alongside construction delivery.
Our Social value framework
Employment & Skills
We create equitable opportunities by investing in people. Through fair pay, targeted recruitment, and ongoing training, we help address industry skill shortages while opening clear pathways for long-term careers.
Community
We actively engage with the communities we serve, contributing time, resources, and support to local initiatives and charities. Our aim is to foster inclusive, thriving neighbourhoods where we make a positive and lasting impact.
Environment
We are committed to protecting the planet by reducing our carbon footprint, minimising waste, and promoting responsible use of resources. Sustainability is embedded in our operations, driving continuous improvement and environmental awareness.
Ethical Delivery
We operate with integrity at every stage of delivery. From responsible supply chains to fair treatment and strict compliance, we ensure our work meets the highest ethical standards.

EMPLOYMENT & SKILLS
Trainee Investment Programme
EMPLOYMENT & SKILLS
At Ivor King, we have successfully delivered a structured, full-time, fully paid 12-month training programme for Trainee Piling Operatives through our in-house training centre, creating clear pathways into sustained employment, with participants transitioning into permanent roles within the industry.
Importantly, this is not a one-off initiative and forms a key part of our long-term commitment to workforce development. By maintaining ongoing delivery, we are actively addressing the skills shortage within the construction and civil engineering sectors and ensuring a steady pipeline of trained, work-ready operatives.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
For many years, Ivor King has been dedicated to finding innovative solutions to protect and care for our environment – from solar energy systems and electric vehicles to waste reduction, energy-efficient lighting, and eco-friendly practices across our operations.
In 2023, we took a major step by becoming a certified Carbon Neutral Business, partnering with Carbon Neutral Britain™ to measure, offset, and ultimately reduce our carbon footprint.
As a Carbon Neutral Organisation, we continue to drive meaningful change for a greener future.
Local Food Bank Support
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Local Food Bank Support
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We supported Nuneaton Foodbank with a donation of essential shopping items, helping ensure vital supplies reached families across the town.
Although we work nationwide, our local community remains incredibly important to us. Having been based in our hometown of Nuneaton for over 50 years, giving back is something we truly value, so we were delighted for the opportunity to buy and hand-deliver essentials to the local food bank for those needing extra support.
Reusing Sustainable Materials

Reusing steel sheet piles supports circular economy principles by significantly reducing embodied carbon – by up to 79% compared to new steel production. Typically extracted after applications such as temporary cofferdams, sheet piles can be reused up to ten times without compromising performance.
At the end of their service life, steel sheet piles are 100% recyclable through electric arc furnace processes, retaining full structural integrity without any loss of quality.
By choosing reused steel sheet piles over new ones, up to 1,640 kg of CO₂ emissions can be saved per tonne of steel, making this approach a highly effective way to reduce environmental impact while maintaining engineering standards.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
We are committed to supporting the development of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills. This includes regular involvement in school visits, careers fairs, and industry events, where we promote core STEM subjects and provide guidance on potential career pathways within the sector.
Supported by a dedicated STEM ambassador, these initiatives enable us to connect directly with students and educators, and deliver lasting social value within the communities in which we operate
Locally Produced Honey
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Locally Produced Honey
ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
Our central hub is home to a collection of beehives, lovingly kept by our resident expert beekeeper and Facilities Manager, Dave Brown.
We like to do our bit to help, sowing many varieties of wild flowers in verges and embankments around our site each year.
These provide the essentials bees need to thrive; food in the form of nectar and pollen. In return, the bees yield many products, including beeswax polish, candles, and not least, Dave’s award-winning Galley Common Honey!
We all know bees are essential to the ecosystem, that’s why we’re only too glad to create an environment that promotes enrichment and a place to thrive for these important pollinators.

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
At Ivor King, we’re continually investing in ways to strengthen our sustainability efforts. In recent years, that’s included installing hundreds of solar panels across our workshop and office roofs at IKHQ – helping us generate clean, renewable energy on site.
It’s all part of our wider commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and driving down emissions as a certified Carbon Neutral Business in partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT
As part of the Environment Agency led scheme at Kempsey Pumping Station in Worcestershire, we were proud to support a local community scheme, co-ordinated by our client and main contractor, Jackson Civil Engineering.
Alongside other key suppliers on the scheme, Ivor King donated to St Mary’s Church Severnside Parish to help bring their Easter celebrations to life.
We supported their Easter Craft Fair at the group’s Stepping Stones toddler session, helping local parents and toddlers come together, share stories, get creative, and strengthen community bonds.
