The Highways Agency £1.5bn A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement Scheme includes a major new bypass to the south of Huntingdon and upgrades to 21 miles of the A14.

Working during overnight road closures, we installed a King Sheet Piling (KSP®) permanent retaining wall near to the A14’s intersection with the M11.

125 pairs of ArcelorMittal AZ steel sheet piles of up to 11m in length were installed using our two state-of-the-art Bauer RTG RG21T Telescopic Leader Rigs. Pile sections used to form the KSP wall were ArcelorMittal AZ12-770, AZ18-700 and AZ36-700.

Utilising the performance of the 750hp tier 5 engine and MR150 AVM hydraulic vibro hammer, these impressive leader rigs are among the most versatile and powerful on the market. They also comply with strict emission standards required for working in Central London from 2020 and beyond.

To maximise efficiency, the first leader rig pre-augered the pile line at specified centres prior to installation by the second rig vibro-driving piles to level across 10 night shifts.

Utilising Ivor King’s dedicated transport fleet, night time sheet pile deliveries were scheduled using our attendant lorry loaders equipped with 65 tonne metre cranes.
